Empathy

I was sent to a school on an assignment recently to photograph a little girl in grade two who had decided on her own, that she was going to cut off her hair and donate it to the Canadian Cancer Association because she wanted to help her teacher who had been diagnosed with breast cancer. The following is the letter that she had written to her teacher earlier in the year:

“Dear Ms. Mcleod. I was wondering if you neded my hair (wig). Just call me if you nead it because I have been growing it for over 2 years to donate it.

Love Emily

I hope you get better soon because Adam and Nathalie need a wonderful teacher.”

A lot of the things that I cover are usually boring or insignificant, but this was one story that really touched me.
